Summer News for Hirsh Real Estate Specialists

Nationally, home sales have seen two of the worst months in history but we have actually managed to see a few positive numbers locally. The silver lining to all of this is today’s interest rates. They have managed to remain at historic levels and if you can afford to buy or refinance, now is the time.
Life after the Tax Credit
There are varying opinions why national home sales saw a mini-crash after the April 30th tax credit expired but needless to say, the months of June and July were two of the lowest in US history for real estate. Even metro Atlanta saw a 26% drop and Smyrna fell 41% in volume from July 2009 to July 2010. Prices have remained within about 5% of last year and on the whole volume is up about 20% over last year so we are hopeful that these past couple of months were a brief anomaly. Activity in just the past several weeks has indicated a slight rebound, which is good for everyone.
Interest Rates Fall Again
You might be wondering what keeps buyers coming back to the table and sellers able to move their homes in this economy. One large factor is that interest rates have fallen again. We have seen a significant jump in cash buyers but for those who choose to mortgage, the rates cannot be beat. Here are today’s average mortgage rates. If you can afford to buy, now is the time!
30 Year Fixed – 4.36%
15 Year Fixed 3.86%
