How Do Atlanta Schools Stack up?

When buying a home, school districts are a key factor, even if you don’t have children. Being in a good school district not only benefits your own family, but also adds value to your home. When moving to a new area it can be overwhelming trying to narrow down the best school districts. For starters, Gwinnett and Cobb County schools have some of the best schools in the state. With high ranking academic and athletic programs year after year.

Here is a breakdown of the schools within each of these counties.  It’s important to check specific school rankings, because they can really vary, even within the same county. Acworth, Austell, Kennesaw, Mableton, Marietta, Powder Springs, Smyrna, and Vinings are the cities making up Cobb County.

Each year, The Broad Prize Award, the largest education award in the country, honors five urban school districts that demonstrate the strongest student achievement and improvement in the nation. Gwinnett was honored in 2010 with this award. They also received a million dollars to fund scholarships for graduating seniors. Norcross, Lawrenceville, Suwanee, Duluth, Dacula, Buford are just some of the cities that make up Gwinnett.

But, don’t think you have to move to the Suburbs to find the best schools. Downtown Atlanta is home to the 2nd, 6th and 10th ranked elementary schools in the state, Morris Brandon, Sarah Smith, and Warren  T. Jackson.  All of these schools are smack in the middle of some of Atlanta’s most popular neighborhoods, the Westside and Buckhead where home values range from the 300s to the millions.
