During the 1970s and 1980s, the rapid growth of social organized events and concerts had a dramatic effect on the increase of wear and tear on the Park. The Dogwood Festival (est. 1936), the Arts Festival of Atlanta (est.1954) attracted large, diverse crowds to the park. Musical performances also took center stage, ranging from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Allman Brothers concerts, to the Montreux Jazz Festival. Piedmont Park became compounded by a lack of city budgets because of high activity in the Park which led to deterioration. With many illegal activities, it became quite clear that a long-term solution to fund the care, maintenance and security of park was vital.

The only solution was a public-private partnership.

In 1989, a small group of locals and civic leaders joined together to form Piedmont Park Conservancy,  they were dedicated to the restoration and preservation of Piedmont Park and a non profit organization. Then in 1992, a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Atlanta was established, making the public–private partnership official and together they formed plans to develop and maintain Piedmont Park.

Through the generosity of corporate, foundation and individual contributions, Piedmont Park Conservancy has raised more than $23 million in private funds to complete the first half of the Master Plan restoration, including the renovation of Oak Hill, Lake Clara Meer and the Meadowlands. Through the support of its members, The Piedmont Park Conservancy now offers a variety of educational programming through its new Community Center. maintenance workers keep the park clean and beautiful, and off duty Police Officers keep the park safe, so our much appreciated Piedmont Park has become once again a premier green space and a central social place of Ansley Park, Atlanta.
