Tierra is a cross between gourmet and just damn good. Customers come for the ambiance and the diverse Latin menu, and keep returning. The co-owners and chefs know to keep the favorites on the menu but they also know to add weekly changes and usually introduce these to celebrate a Latin country fiesta.
The menu explores the flavors of Latin America, like the Salvadoran pupusa, with thick corn tortillas melted together with gooey cheese set off wiyh tart curtido (think coleslaw), and the Brazilian-style roasted chicken with a sauce of cashews and peanuts swimming in a ginger-laced coconut milk, are the essence of blending Latin food with a few exotic touches. Desserts are excellent a must is the luscious très leches cake, refreshing lime ice cream or the seasonal (usually fig or mango) tart.The wine list is quality not quantity and complements the Latin menu
The summer sees the owners spending a week in a different Latin country to create new dishes for their specials list. They also return with varied art decor for their walls as well as unusual trinkets adding to the Latin ambiance of this cozy corner in Ansley Park.
The restaurant business takes long days and nights of dedication to make a go of it. Dan and Ticha who have been married 14 years have clearly worked hard to establish themselves in this difficult competitive world. Ticha has a South American background born to Salvadoran parents she grew up in Mexico, Peru, Chile, Panama, Nicaragua and Brazil so is true Latin blood. Dan is a Californian Culinary Academy graduate and met Ticha at a wedding, the rest is history. The couple fell in love with Ansley Park and after financial help from loans the couple opened in February 1999 and through determination, great insight and good product have gone from strength to strength.
Inside, there is a warm, friendly atmosphere evoking a feeling of dining in true Latin America. Its simple decor is enhanced by terracotta walls, a contemporary mix of industrial stainless steel, strategically placed lighting and black and white photos of Latin Americans engaged in everyday life. The restaurant's year round patio is welcoming and comfortable outdoor space. A hip diverse Ansley Park crowd, colorful flavorsome homemade food and genuinely friendly service make this an exceptionally good fashionable dining spot for foodie lovers.
