Lake Claire Real Estate

Lake Claire is an intown neighborhood made up of 37 streets and 1,200 homes in northeastern Atlanta. This distinctive community is in a great location for intown living and dearly loved by its residents. Although it is an intown neighborhood, Lake Claire feels like a suburban community far removed from the hustle and bustle of big city life.

The streets in Lake Claire are hilly and full of tall lush trees. Homes in the neighborhood are made up of craftsman bungalows, 50s cottages, exotic revivals and more modern designs. Lake Claire home styles vary significantly because for the most part, they were not designed in uniformity as the neighborhood was developed, but rather much of the neighborhood was sold off as empty lots, allowing owners to construct their own homes. Lake Claire is a charming neighborhood of well maintained homes and yards. In recent years, Lake Claire has grown in popularity and its real estate remains in high demand.

In relation to other intown neighborhoods Lake Claire is east of Candler Park, south of Druid Hills, west of Decatur and North of Kirkwood. This gives Lake Claire easy access to the commercial districts of these neighboring communities, particularly Candler Park. Also, residents are just minutes from Downtown and all that Atlanta has to offer.

Lake Claire has its own park at Lakeshore Drive near McLendon, which has a children’s playground, a tennis court and a large playing field. The "Lake Claire Neighbors" is an active neighborhood association that meets monthly to plan events, and work to preserve and further the Lake Claire community. Lake Claire is known to be a very active community full of friendly residents proud of their neighborhood.

Lake Claire is served by the following Atlanta public schools: Mary Lin Elementary School, Inman Middle School and Henry W. Grady High School.

The History of Lake Claire

Lake Claire’s history dates back to the 1900s when the streets of the neighborhood were surveyed as separate developments. The streets were individually incorporated into the city of Atlanta through the 1910s. Some of the homes in the neighborhood were built in groups by developers, although most were built after individual owners purchased empty lots.

Lake Claire gets its name from the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Claire Drive. There is no actual lake named Lake Claire in the area. It is possible that the neighborhood was named after the founding of the Lake Claire Garden Club, in the mid 1930s.
